The Malaysian government has approved a RM60 million pedestrian connection between the Bukit Chagar RTS Link station and the KTMB Komuter service. Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the link would allow Komuter passengers to walk directly to the RTS station instead of taking the existing detour through JB Sentral.
The project is expected to take about 12 months and is intended to improve transfers between public-transport services. A wider traffic-dispersal plan is also being prepared for central Johor Bahru to reduce the risk of new bottlenecks around Bukit Chagar when the RTS Link begins operating.
Reported measures include better coordination between bus, rail and road networks. Bernama reported plans to expand the BAS.MY network to 28 routes and 254 buses, including 157 buses serving the JB Sentral and Bukit Chagar area from early 2027.
What should property buyers watch?
Accessibility depends on more than straight-line distance to the RTS station. Covered walking routes, transfer time, operating hours, bus frequency, road congestion and parking costs all matter. Better connections may improve convenience, but investment decisions should still be based on real rental demand and a sensible purchase price.
